April Ross

April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball players who have won medals during more than one Olympics. Alix-Klineman will compete with Ross at Tokyo to win her third gold in the coming days. Ross will also be hoping for her first Olympic gold. And at the age of 39 this may be her final chance to do so. Still confident but she is not sure. Ross declared on NBC Boston: "If we perform our best and if we just play well I believe we can win the gold medal." Also, I am going to rely on a bit of luck. Ross was born August 22nd, 1982 at Costa Mesa California. She resided in the area together with her parents. Ross went on to play in a myriad of sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. As a prep-athlete she was also a participant in indoor track and volleyball. She was clearly the best player in indoor volleyball. During her high school career she played middle blocker, outside setter and hitter at the tennis court per her bio at the college. She was awarded the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her in volleyball. Ross Klineman and Ross may have started working together in 2017, but Ross had already been a seasoned player at the beach before they came together. The fact is, she's won multiple big tournaments and one of them was a renowned volleyball player. From 2007 until 2013 she played by Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Together with Kessy Ross, she was a major force on the international stage, claiming an international title in 2009. In 2012, the duo took silver in London's Olympic Games. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor clinched gold beating them to it. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she announced her retirement. Together, they won beach volleyball bronze for the Rio Olympics of the year 2016. Ross began her collegiate time with the Trojans at USC after her high school days. It was a long time before Ross hit the beach, and then became a pro. Her career was a success through the NCAA tournament. As a freshman in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 and NCAA The Freshman of the Year awards and was an All-American. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans get to the Final Four. She suffered a devastating personal loss in her sophomore season however she was able to return her place as an All-American. Through her two final seasons with the Trojans program, she coached the Trojans to winning a national title every time. She had established herself as an all-time legend by winning the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female collegiate volleyball player. Ross took a course in the study of international relations in USC. Margie Ross did not get to see Ross become the highest beach volleyball levels. Ross's mother passed away from breast cancer when she was in her sophomore year at USC. As a result, Ross is still close to her parent who died. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration for her, both on and off the beach.
